CASA FRANCISC
The students at Casa Francisc in Sibiu live in shared flats. The house manager, Bogdan Mihulet, looks after 36 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. There are joint activities and the residents are responsible for cooking and cleaning. Weekly meetings cover topics such as hygiene, getting on well with each other, conflict resolution and advice on personal issues.
Fixed study times help the pupils find a learning rhythm and pass their exams. Bogdan is in contact with the teachers and knows where his help is needed. He also keeps in touch with the families, so he is aware of any current issues and can inform parents about developments. Adults and students have a little more freedom and responsibility than minors.
There are leisure rooms for sports and music. Those who learnt to play an instrument at the ELIJAH music school can make friends here with whom they can continue to make music. Some have completed secondary school and are studying or working part-time. They will soon be independent, looking for an apartment and supporting their families. The student residence includes two starter apartments. Four students share each flat. They work alongside their studies and pay all the running costs.
