The ELIJAH music school has two locations: Casa Sonja in Hosman and Casa Thomas in Nou. The music schools are the heart of the village. On five weekdays, over 250 students receive lessons and make music together in the orchestra and choir. One focus is on Roma tradition.
Since February 2022, Félix Briceño from Venezuela has been the musical director. He comes from the El Sistema school, an aid programme that successfully teaches children from the poorest areas of South America to play music. Everyone is given the opportunity to play and enjoy making music together. One of the highlights of the year is the raven dance ‘Dansul Corbilor’.
Through musical education, the children experience the joy of learning. It boosts their self-confidence, awakens their diligence and ambition, and has a direct impact on their academic success. Music attracts children and young people whom we cannot reach with educational and social services. They proudly show off their skills. In order to introduce even the youngest children to music in a playful way, we offer early music education with Orff instruments in the social centres.
The music schools are open to all children. Contact is established between Roma and Romanian children. Friendships develop through playing together in the orchestra. Events strengthen the integration of Roma families into the village community.

CASA SONJA
Since 2013, children in Hosman and the surrounding area have been making music at the Casa Sonja music school. Here they can learn an instrument, and there is a choir and solo singing lessons. Our dance classes are very popular and bring the house to life.
CASA THOMAS
We have many classrooms and a larger hall for orchestra rehearsals, workshops and concerts for parents and the village community. The children play the saxophone, accordion, clarinet, flute, trumpet and piano, violin, viola, cello and double bass. Singing and voice training, groups for traditional Romanian and modern dance are also taught.
